Make Your Own Face Masks with Everyday Household Ingredients

Here are the 10 most common household ingredients that are best for making a home-made face mask.

Ingredient 01: Avocados –

This green vegetable is not only for spreading on toast! In skincare, avocados are often used for smoothing the overall texture of the skin. This comes from the high fatty acids and vitamin contents within the vegetable. It also makes a great base before adding any additional ingredients to your face masks.

Ingredient 02: Honey –

Soften your skin by adding honey to your face mask! It may be a little on the thick side, but it can do amazing things for your skin! Honey is a natural skin softener & moisturizer that also helps to unclog pores. It is the ultimate deep cleaning ingredient for face masks.

Ingredient 03: Aloe Vera –

Soothe your skin & fight inflammation with everyone’s favorite healing succulent, aloe vera! Each leaf is filled with a gel-like liquid that has the power to soothe & heal scar tissue (like minor cuts & burns). It’s also an excellent ingredient to add to face masks for reducing inflammation & calming chronic skin problems.

Ingredient 04: Turmeric –

The best acne fighter can be found right in your kitchen cupboard. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory ingredient that helps calm acne & reduce scarring. Get rid of those annoying breakouts even quicker or avoid them completely with this antioxidant spice!

Ingredient 05: Lemon –

Lemon is a natural skin brightener & anti-bacterial, so if you have any blackheads trying to make an appearance, this is a great ingredient to add to your face masks. The citric acid & richness in Vitamin C can even help get rid of dark spots for a more clear complexion.

Ingredient 06: Coconut Milk –

There are ways to help combat oily skin with coconut milk. Add a tablespoon or two to help unclog pores of dirt & oil while still moisturizing the skin.

Ingredient 07: Yogurt –

Get rid of the bacteria and germs by adding plain yogurt to your face masks. No need to use a flavored yogurt —plain will work perfectly. This is another great DIY face mask base. Simply start with a small 6-ounce cup of yogurt and add other ingredients that meet your skin concerns. Yogurt is also excellent for those interested in anti-aging as its lactic acid contents help to tightens pores and the overall skin texture.

Ingredient 08: Coffee –

Coffee grounds are already an A.M. essential. Not only does the strong scent help wake you up first thing in the morning, but they serve as excellent exfoliators to remove dirt & dead skin. If you have puffy eyes or allergies, coffee grounds can also help reduce the swelling.

For those with sensitive skin who are looking for a gentle exfoliator, oatmeal is a must for your next DIY face mask. Blending steel cut oats into your face mask can lead to fresh, healthy-looking skin. It can also help calm chronic skin problems or irritations.

Ingredient 10: Raspberries & Blueberries –

Raspberries & blueberries are delicious superfoods & are very high in antioxidants. Mash a handful of berries with your next face mask to help repair skin cells & promote anti-aging which includes firming the skin and reducing signs of wrinkles. Similar to aloe vera, berries high in antioxidants can help to heal scar tissue.
